House Speaker Kevin McCarthy appeared on CBS’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday to talk about the lingering controversy surrounding liar and hoax Rep. George Santos, but in line with Republican politics, I noticed he was doing “exercises” to fend off trouble. Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski said.
When asked about “Face the Nation” and why he didn’t start an effort to remove Mr. Santos, Mr. McCarthy said much about his past on the way to being elected in the New York area. I could lie.
A California Republican said voters “voted a proxy” for Santos and had no choice but to agree to treat him like any other member of Congress.
McCarthy, who appointed Santos to two committees, first joked impartially that he believed “with all his heart” that “the Congress is broken” and “wanted to open the House to the public.
McCarthy said, “If every new person brought into Congress is elected, what their voters have done is give the American people a voice so that all those members can serve on committees.” “What I’m trying to do is change some of these committees, like the Intel committees,” he said.
McCarthy then turned stealthily.
Later, Morning Joe reported that a poll found that 73% of Americans said the Republican Party “doesn’t pay enough attention to the country’s most important issues,” compared to just four minutes of those surveyed. 1 (27%) of House Republican leaders said they had the “right priorities.”
“[McCarthy]is sick just doing gymnastics there,” said Mika Brzezinski. “Santos seems to be ‘unwell’,” Brzezinski added, “with sympathy.” She said she feels Santos’ “voters must feel pretty cheated.”
“Morning Joe” guest and “Way to Early” host Jonathan Lemire said McCarthy could not afford to lose California Republican “George Santos because he needs his vote.” and he was a reliable partner.”
