Riso In order to honor the life and achievements of Tina Turner, the May 24th concert has been suspended. Just hours after news broke that the Queen of Rock and Roll had died at the age of 83, Lizzo paid tribute to the deceased musician while on her “special” tour in Phoenix, Arizona.
“Today we lost an icon,” she begins, holding back tears. “And I’ve never allowed myself to be sad. I’ve never allowed myself to cry about it. Lizzo then treated fans to a moving performance of “Proud Mary,” a Creedence Clearwater Revival song Turner covered in 1971 with then-husband Ike. In the wake of Turner’s passing, countless celebrities have paid tribute to him. Angela Bassett, who played Turner in her 1993 biopic What’s Love Got to Do With It, wrote her emotional caption on her Instagram, saying that Turner left her revealed the last word. “Her last words to me were, ‘You never imitated me. ’ I will keep these words in mind for the rest of my days,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, Beyoncé praised the “beloved queen” in a statement on her website, saying, “I am so grateful for your inspiration and all the ways you paved the way. You are strength and resilience.” You are the epitome of that.” power and passion. Stars such as Oprah Winfrey, Barack Obama, Viola Davis and Mariah Carey also delivered moving tributes.
